The series is created by Charles Yu and Kelvin Yu, and is executive produced by Destin Daniel Cretton, Asher Goldstein, Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, Gene Luen Yang, Charles Yu, and Kelvin Yu. Story
The story follows Jin Wang, a Chinese-American teenager struggling with his identity and daily life. When a new exchange student arrives at his school, Jin is drawn into a battle between the gods of Chinese mythology.
Production
Development of the series was announced in October 2021, with Disney+ commissioning the series straight-to-series. In April 2022, Asian-American fashion designers Prabal Gurung and Phillip Lim joined the production to work alongside costume designer Joy Cretton. Lucy Liu confirmed that she will be directing an episode of the series.
Work
Principal photography for the series began in Los Angeles on February 8, 2022. The series is highly anticipated by fans of the graphic novel and Asian-American representation in media.
