Ashraful Hossen Alom, also known as Hero Alom, is a Bangladeshi model, actor, producer, singer, and politician, known for his unique and absurdist music videos that feature him dancing with random women. He has become a popular subject of memes and online trolling, and even has a YouTube channel with over 1.47 million subscribers. Although not a member of the Bangladesh film industry, Alom operates as an independent artist who shares videos on social media platforms. He first gained notoriety in 2015 when some of his music videos went viral and became a popular target of online trolling. He has acted in one feature film and even inspired a Hindi play directed by NSD-graduate Mahesh Ruprao Ghodeswar, which was staged in 2019 in Ahmedabad and Mumbai.

Biography


Early in his life, Hero Alom worked selling CDs and later started a satellite TV connection business. He began making music videos as a hobby, and they eventually gained traction and popularity. In 2018, Alom decided to run in the Bangladeshi general election as an independent candidate after he was denied nomination by Jatiya Party. He drew significant media attention and was the 2nd Bangladeshi, after Khaleda Zia, to be in the top 10 of Google’s 2018 search trend in Bangladesh. However, he ultimately lost the election, receiving only 638 votes. Despite this, he contested again in the bypolls to both Bogra-6 and Bogra-4 as an independent, though he lost Bogra-4 by only 800 votes.

Arrest


In 2019, Hero Alom was arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife for dowry, and again in 2022 for exploiting and disgracing old classical Bengali songs. He was arrested for wearing a police uniform in his videos without proper permission and for changing the original tone and lyrics of Rabindranath Tagore’s song.
