He is the son of Bollywood director David Dhawan. Rohit made his directorial debut from the film Desi Boyz. His next directorial will be Shehzada starring Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon Scheduled to release on November 2022.

Rohit made his debut in Bollywood with the movie Desi Boyz in 2011. The comedy-drama film that stars John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, and Chitrangda Singh in lead roles received a mixed response at the box office. Although, Desi Boyz remains his directorial debut, David Dhawan in an interview revealed that Rohit had assisted him in writing Partner (2007). He has worked in popular movies like Shehzada, Dishoom.
