His areas of focus include Qur’anic memorisation, Tafsīr (Qur’anic exegesis), Ḥanafī jurisprudence, Māturīdī theology, classical Arabic poetry, Islamic history, and Taṣawwuf (spirituality). His primary scholarly expertise lies in Qur’anic exegesis. Among his many contributions to Islamic literature, his most notable is the English translation and summarisation of Tafsīr al-Māturīdī (Ta’wīlāt Ahl al-Sunnah), the seminal 30-volume Qur’anic commentary by Imām Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī. This project marks one of the first major efforts to make this foundational theological work accessible to English-speaking audiences.

  • An Approach to Hypercalcaemia in General Practice

Beyond medicine and theology, Dr Mutahar is also a dedicated martial artist. A black belt in judo, he began his martial arts journey at the age of seven and took up judo at seventeen. He has since won numerous state and national titles and represented Australia internationally in the under-81kg men’s category. His signature technique is the Uchi Mata throw. More recently, he has taken on a coaching role to help mentor and develop the next generation of judoka.
